The sacred mountain

Tengger people hold traditional ceremonies called Yadnya Kasada once a year. the ceremony was held at the temple at the foot of Mount Bromo and was continued to walk towards the summit of Bromo Crater. the ceremony is held on the night of the morning until the early morning when the full moon around the 14th or 15th in the Kasodo (tenth) according to the Javanese calendar.
the origin of the Yadnya Kasada ceremony began in the 15th century where it was told of a woman named Roro Anteng who led the Tengger kingdom with her husband, Joko Seger. This couple did not have children, so they prayed and begged the mountain god to provide children. then the Mountain God granted the couple’s request and gave 24 children, but the number turned out to be 25 children. In agreement with the gods, they had to throw their 25th child named Jaya Kusuma into the volcano as a sacrificed child. The god’s request was carried out, after Jaya Kusuma threw himself into the crater of the mountain, he asked the Tengger people to throw the harvest into the crater every 14th of the Kasada month which aims to appease the ancient gods. The request continues to be carried out so that it has become a tradition to this day. The Tengger people performed the Kasada ceremony by throwing their harvest into the Bromo crater as a thankgiving for the harvest received and as a request for a more abundant harvest the following season.
