Prambanan Temple
Prambanan Temple is one of the largest Hindu temple complexes in Indonesia, located between Yogyakarta and Solo. Built in the 9th century by Rakai Pikatan of the Sanjaya Dynasty, it honors the Trimurti, the three main Hindu gods: Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer. The complex includes 240 smaller temples, with the main Shiva Temple standing 47 meters tall. Visitors can admire detailed carvings and reliefs that tell the story of Ramayana.
Prambanan Temple attracts both local and international tourists. You can walk through the wide temple grounds, enjoy scenic views, and learn about Hindu history and philosophy through the intricate reliefs. Every year, the temple hosts cultural performances, including the famous Ramayana Ballet, which combines dance and theater against the stunning temple backdrop.
The temple also appeals to photographers and architecture lovers. The best time to visit is in the morning or late afternoon, when sunlight highlights the carvings and towers. Visitors can use facilities such as an information center, parking, and resting areas. With its rich history, beautiful art, and surrounding scenery, Prambanan Temple offers an unforgettable experience of Javanese culture.
